The second edition of this scarce collection of Carlyles works, in the publishers original cloth bindings.
Hailing from the Scottish lowlands, Carlyle was a leading writer of the Victorian era, who exerted a profound influence on nineteenth-century art, literature, and philosophy.
This collection of essays includes discussions of Goethe, Sir Walter Scott, the French Revolution, and Boswells Life of Johnson.
With two library stamps to the tail of each title page, and a small number of further leaves.
CONDITION
In the publishers original cloth bindings, with bumping to spine heads and tails. Front hinge of volume I strained and rear hinge of volume VI strained, but firmly held. Front hinge of volume II strained, and tender. Volume III and IV front and rear hinges strained and holding firm. Internally, firmly bound. Library stamps to title page tails, and to a small number of further leaves. Pages otherwise generally clean and bright.
